Brief History of The Quiet Mind Centre                        [Volunteer therapists currently needed]

The Quiet Mind Centre was originally founded in Exmouth in East Devon in 1984 by the General Manager, Mrs. Bobby Neil. It was re-structured to broaden its scope in 1990 under Registered Charity Number 1029636. At that time The Centre was based in a much smaller building with no disabled access. By 2003 The Centre was full to capacity.

In the autumn of 2003 The Centre moved to a much larger building at 14 Hartley Road which was more suited to the needs of all our clients.

The Centre was founded with the objective to 'relieve sickness by the provision of all non-toxic methods of healing and natural therapeutics designed to relieve human suffering and distress' and in furtherance of this objective to:

  • Provide counselling.
  • Offer spiritual support through: guidance in spiritual matters which support the religious beliefs of the individual; an awareness of the source of healing; teaching the understanding and experience of meditation; providing a library containing a wide range of books of comparative religions.
  • Raise awareness of all aspects of healing and complementary care.
  • Promote stress reduction by teaching and encouraging tolerance, compassion, understanding and loving attitudes.
  • Encourage an integrated approach to healthcare by the blending of allopathic and complementary care.
  • Promote preventative healthcare and provide facilities for training in complementary health care.
  • Provide facilities for the further training of healthcare workers within the health service to promote the understanding and incorporation of holistic techniques into general use.
  • Encourage and promote research into the the efficacy of complementary care, to provide facilities for research and to communicate and publish all findings and conclusions.
  • Provide a broad resource and information service to the community on all matters related to health.

OUR COMMITMENT TO CLIENTS

We regularly review the therapies available at The Centre and continually seek to expand the range we are able to offer. Donations are kept to a minimum and we always treat anyone if they have need of our services, even if they cannot afford a donation. We also review the quality of The Centre's procedures (including a complaints procedure), and obtain the views and observations of clients on The Centre at regular intervals. We are committed to raising the standards of the premises, training, publicity, information service and equipment. We also seek ways to improve income generation, in order to provide the most professional service in the finest possible environment to the best of our ability.

No means-testing of benefits is required as the aim is to build a relationship of mutual trust and respect between The Centre and each client. Once a client has been allocated to a therapist The Centre then steps back and does not interfere in the relationship between the client and the therapist because of confidentiality.
